Big Name Attorney Or Small Firm? A Pros And Cons List

Surely you have seen them: giant billboards of famous auto accident attorneys, promising you big money on your case. Are they real though? Can you trust them? If you do choose to get an attorney, should you go with a big name or a small law firm?

Millions of Americans go to court each year for car accident cases, and around 64% win their cases. In large part, this is due to getting legal help from a professional. While there are some pros to getting a big time lawyer (the one whose face you see on billboards around town), there are also a few things you should be aware of.

Pro

You May Get Publicity On Your Case

When you are working with someone in the public eye, your case may get a little more attention than normal. This is great when it comes to accident cases, since usually the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If your opposition in your case is aware that you have a big name fighting for you, they are more likely to settle.

Famous Attorneys Know How to Work the System

In addition, most famous attorneys are famous for a reason. Usually they have spent a lot of time in the court system fighting for the rights of their clients. Judges and other lawyers in your area are likely to know how they work, and often have a rapport. This may help you to gain more leverage in court.

Cons

You Will Not Likely Work With Them

On the other hand, you should know that it is not likely that you will be working directly with a big name lawyer. Most of the time those people are kind of the face of their law firms. While they bring in the business, other talented and intelligent lawyers and paralegals will be the person who you are actually working with on a regular basis.

It May Cost You More

Sometimes hiring famous attorneys can be more difficult because you have to pay a little extra for their name. This means that a smaller firm could do the same work for a fraction of the cost, though granted, this is not always the case. Make sure that you do your due diligence before choosing who will represent you.

After you have weighed your options you may choose to go with a famous attorney, or maybe you feel that a smaller law firm would work better for you. Either way, make sure that you feel that you have both the representation and the help to fight for your rights.
